Lilly (dreamlands)

A creature called a buopoth. Named by John, after one of the nurses working at the hospital in Harper's Hill.

Personality

John describes Lilly as timid and nonthreatening, and describes her as having intelligent eyes. She is friendly, and enjoys eating a type of insect found in the Dreamlands. Evidently, does not understand British accents.

Description

Lilly is a buopoth - a cow-like creature, described by John as a cross between an elephant and an ant eater. She has a long trunk with a mouth on the end, large ears, and plate-like bones protruding from her back. She is covered in patches of green, mossy fur.

History

Arthur and John encounter Lilly shortly after escaping the prison pits. Her friendly nature allows Arthur to approach her and pet her, which she seems to enjoy. She digs up a tofflebol for them. She's wearing a too-tight harness that cuts into her skin, and Arthur and John remove the harness to let her go free.

In Part Twenty, Lilly is mortally wounded. Arthur and John find her outside the city, in a great deal of pain. After realizing there's nothing they can do to save her, John has Arthur give a eulogy, and John used the dagger to kill her and end her suffering.

• Can locate toffelbols that are quite valuable, according to the Trader.
